Welcome to the Orlando Vacation Walt Disney World Overview!

A trip to Walt Disney World can be a dream come true for you and your family. However, to make that dream a reality requires some information and some planning…so that you can make the best use of both your time and your money.

This overview is designed to help you get started. You can get additional personalized help by visiting our website at www.orlandovacation.com or calling 1-800-641-4008.

Walt Disney World is a “vacation destination” which means it will take at least several days to experience because it is over 47 square miles, larger than many of the cities in the United States.

The Walt Disney World property consists of four distinctive theme parks, two fun packed water parks, a massive shopping and dining area known as Downtown Disney (that is as large as a theme park itself), an elaborate sports complex, five golf courses as well as two miniature golf courses, a campground, convention facilities and over two dozen resort hotels all connected by Disney’s own enormous transportation system of highways, busses, monorail, and watercraft.

That isn’t even mentioning the many live shows, countless dining options for every taste and budget, as well as activities like horseback riding, boating and specialized tours.

The Magic Kingdom, with Cinderella Castle at its center, is the park that immediately comes to people’s minds when they think of Walt Disney World. This family friendly entertainment venue is a “must see” and allows you to soar high in the sky with Dumbo, discover the Pirates of the Caribbean and experience the three highest mountains in the state of Florida: Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain.

Epcot is twice as large as the Magic Kingdom but is divided into only two sections. Futureworld emphasizes the wonders of current technology with attractions like SpaceShip Earth, Test Track and Soarin’. World Showcase has eleven foreign themed pavilions, each devoted to a particular country like China or Morocco and offering a chance to sample their food, merchandise and culture.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios gives guests a taste of classic Hollywood from stunt shows to animation to a loving look at favorite movies including attractions devoted to the Muppets, the Pixar characters and Star Wars.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is larger than the other three parks combined. Not only can guests see wild animals in a natural environment but there are popular shows and attractions as well, including “The Legend of the Lion King” stage show and the thrills of Expedition Everest.

Future DVDs will look at each of these parks more closely.

If you are looking to cool off during the hot Florida days, Disney has two water parks: Typhoon Lagoon has its own wave machine, snorkeling in a shark reef and plenty of shade. Blizzard Beach has the tallest, fastest water slide in the country with Summit Plummet being a teen favorite.

Want to shop or dine without going into one of the parks? Downtown Disney is divided into three sections: the Marketplace, West Side and the now under construction Hyperion Wharf. This area includes a huge AMC 24 movie theater complex, the House of Blues, Cirque du Soleil, Rainforest Café, Wolfgang Puck’s and one of the largest Disney merchandise stores on property, the World of Disney, along with dozens of other stores and food opportunities to explore.

Walt Disney World is home to five different challenging golf courses in a natural setting far from civilization. For the young and young at heart, there are also two miniature golf courses as well. If you are interested in another type of sport, Disney’s Wide World of Sports is the Spring Training home of the Atlanta Braves as well as the host for an endless list of professional and amateur competitions.

We are just about out of time and we haven’t even started to tell you about some of the other special adventures from stock car driving at the Richard Petty Driving Experience to horse drawn carriage rides to guided fishing excursions. You can see why visitors often need some expert help at handling the overwhelming options that are available.
