Disney Hollywood represents a glamorized view of Hollywood and showcases the wonderful world of entertainment. A nostalgic view of the moviemaking capital has been combined with revealing backstage tours, a variety of TV and movie-themed attractions, and a delightful selection of eateries to create this Walt Disney World park.

Listed below is a park map from Disney Hollywood Studios. Visitors enter the park through Hollywood Blvd.

Disney Hollywood Studios is divided into several distinct areas, each representing a portion of Hollywood or filmmaking. These areas are: Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Echo Lake, the Animation Courtyard, Mickey Avenue, and the Streets of America/Commissary Lane.

Hollywood Boulevard:


Hollywood Boulevard, ending at Mann’s Chinese Theater (which houses the Great Movie Ride), serves as the transition from the real world into the land of movie magic. Its theme is the glory days of Hollywood.


Attractions

  • The Great Movie Ride - Slow moving ride through some of the most famous scenes in movie history, including Singing in the Rain, Casablanca and the Wizard of Oz.

Entertainment

  • High School Musical Pep Rally - Live performances of the songs from hit TV film High School Musical.

Shopping

  • Sid Caheunga's One-of-a-Kind - authentic props, costumes, and posters, many of which are autographed, from films of every description.
  • The Darkroom - Camera sales and rental, film, camera accessories, PhotoPass pick up. Celebrity 5 & 10 - Embroidered items including towels and blankets, charms and other personalized items.
  • Keystone Clothiers - Fashionable Disney clothing for men and women.

  • Starring Rolls Bakery - Pastries and bagel and pita sandwiches.

Full Service

  • Brown Derby Restaurant - Luxurious restaurant in a classic setting taken from the famous Hollywood establishment.

Characters

  • “Streetmosphere” characters, who bring guests into the action with improvisational comedy based on stereotypical Hollywood types—the director, the starlet, etc.
  • The Sorcerer Hat is home to many Disney characters, you never know who will show up. Some of the usual guests include Chicken Little and Abby Mallard from Chicken Little, Chip and Dale and their Girlfriend Clarice, Daisy Duck and Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Lilo and Stitch, and Piglet and Tigger.

Touring Tips

  • The Brown Derby restaurant draws heavy inspiration from the Hollywood original. Meals can be pricey, but are extremely good and the atmosphere is unparalleled.
  • Look for the Hidden Mickey in the Raiders of the Lost Ark treasure room of the Great Movie Ride. It’s on the wall opposite the stolen gem, all the way at the right hand side. This one is pretty spectacular.

Sunset Boulevard:


Sunset Boulevard’s theme is classic films. Thrills and chills reign supreme here, with the Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster located next to each other at the end of the street. More mild fun can also be had, with stage shows, shopping and dining in the area.

  • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage - Live musical performance of the songs and story of the film Beauty and the Beast.
  • Fantasmic! - Breathtaking nighttime show featuring pyrotechnics, lasers, fountains and a huge cast of Disney characters.

Characters

  • There are no characters regularly found on Sunset Blvd.

Touring Tips

  • Get a Fast Pass either for ToT or RnRC, whichever has the longest line. Then ride the other, utilizing the standby line. After you use your Fast Pass, get one for the other attraction and reverse the process. This will allow you to ride both rides twice, with a minimum of waiting in line.
  • Fantasmic! is the not-to-be-missed nighttime spectacular taking place in the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater. Get in line early (up to two hours prior to showtime on crowded nights), as seating is capacity controlled. If there are two shows the night you visit, see popular attractions during the first show, then see the second presentation. The crowds will be much smaller.

Echo Lake:


The theme here is a look at special effects from stunts to sound effects. Star Tours, a motion simulator ride based on the Star Wars films also resides here.

  • Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream of Extinction - Ice cream by the scoop and ice cream novelties.

  • Backlot Express - Fast food staples such as hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries.

  • Tatooine Traders - A Star Wars fan's paradise with countless items for sale from apparel to toys to keepsakes.
  • Golden Age Souvenirs - Character and Walt Disney World mechandise
  • Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost - Indiana Jones apparel, hats, housewares and collectibles.

Characters

  • Sometimes you'll find Darth Vader or a Stormtrooper near the Star Tours attraction.

Touring Tips

  • Arrive early for the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. If you are over 18, you have a chance to be selected as an extra in the show.
  • Visit the ‘50s Prime Time Café. You’ll feel like you entered Leave It to Beaver, with your brothers and sisters waiting the tables and Mom in the kitchen cooking up her specialties. There are TVs at every table showing clips of famous ‘50s shows, and if you don’t eat your vegetables, you may not be allowed to have dessert! Great fun, and excellent home style recipes.

Animation Courtyard:


As you might have deduced, the theme of this area is animation with attractions that salute the films as well as the process that goes into the production of making the movies.

  • Animation Gallery - Disneyana and collectible Disney art including cels, paintings and sculptures.
  • Disney Studios Store - Souvenirs and gifts themed around the latest Disney movie release.
  • In Character - Children's costumes and accessories.

Dining

  • There are no major dining options in Animation Courtyard

Characters

  • Characters from the latest Disney release are found inside the Magic of Disney Animation exhibit. Currently guests can meet Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl from The Incredibles and Remy and Emil from Ratatouille.

Touring Tips

  • Whether or not you liked the movie, be sure to see Voyage of the Little Mermaid. This attraction blends film, live action, puppetry, and special effects to make you believe that you are truly “Under the Sea.”

 

Mickey Avenue:


The theme for Mickey Avenue is movie production. The Backlot Tour and special exhibit “Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream” allow you to witness both the reality of moviemaking and the history of Disney. Realism mixes with fun and surprises here, as throughout Walt Disney World, so expect the unexpected.

  • Walt Disney: One Man's Dream - Exhibit of Disney memorabilia through the years as well as a short biographical film on Walt Disney himself.
  • MGM Backlot Tour - A slow moving tram ride past movie props with a glimpse on how special effects are created.
  • Journey into Narnia - Guests step through the wardrobe and into Narnia for a look at the movie The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Entertainment

  • There are no regularly scheduled entertainment events on Mickey Ave.

Shopping

  • Mickey Ave. Cart - Small cart sells Walt Disney World souvenirs.

Dining

  • There are no major dining options on Mickey Ave.

Characters

  • Characters from Disney televison shows are found on Mickey Ave, including Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable from Kim Possible, Jojo and Goliath from Jojo's Circus and Leo, June and Qunicy from Little Einsteins.

Touring Tips

  • Make sure to visit One Man's Dream, it's a great exhibit and it also is a great escape from the heat.
  • Sit on the left side of the tram on the Backlot Tour for the best views experience.

Streets of America/Commissary Lane:


Once again the theme is special effects. From the dangerous car stunts at Lights, Motors, Action to the forced perspective backdrops of New York Street, this area expands your peek into the tricks of the trade.

  • AFI Studio Showcase - Create your very own movie award and shop among the collection of film books and souvenirs.
  • It's a Wonderful Shop - Christmas decorations. Open seasonally
  • Stage One Comapny Store - Muppet merchandise including plush toys and collectibles, children's apparel.
  • Writers Stop - Relaxing coffee shop with a large selection of books and magazines.

  • ABC Commissary - Dine on hamburgers, sandwiches, stir fry and other items admist props from ABC television shows.
  • Flatbread Grill - Sandwiches and wraps.
  • Herbie's Drive-In - Soft pretzels and cheese.
  • Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano - Classic Italian dishes including flatbreads, pastas and seafood.
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant - This indoor restaurant is themed to resemble a 1950s drive-in, complete with tables that resemble classic automobiles and a star filled sky. Food includes sandwiches, salads, and pasta and steak dishes.
  • Toy Story Pizza Planet - Personal pizzas are served in this arcade loosely based on the one from the film.
  • Writer's Stop - Speciality coffees and pastries.

Characters

  • Mike and Sulley from Monsters Inc can be found across from the ABC Commissary.
  • The Power Rangers make regular appearances on New York St.
  • Buzz Lightyear, Woody and the Green Army Men can be found at Al's Toy Barn near the exit of MuppetVision 3D.

Touring Tips

  • The young and young at heart will love the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, a playland that reduces guests to the size of bugs.
  • Be sure to dine at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre, a full service restaurant housed in a drive-in movie set. You will eat in a replica of a 1950s convertible (with built in tables) while enjoying clips from classic 1950s-1970s era science fiction movies.
  • Be sure to read the shop names on the facades along New York Street. Some of them are hilarious.

Parades


There is an afternoon parade entitled Disney Stars and Motor Cars where Disney characters travel around Echo Lake and down Hollywood Blvd on automobiles.

Fireworks


Disney-Hollywood Studios does not have a fireworks display, instead they treat their guests to a special effects spectacular called Fantasmic. The show utilizes an array of effects including pyrotechnics, lasers, fountains and mist screens and creates a look inside Mickey's imagination. Be aware, this display has very loud explosions and a long segment featuring the Disney villians that small children may find too intense.

There are the highlights of Disney-Hollywood Studios

  • Jim Henson’s Muppet Vision 3-D - join the Muppet’s Gang on a wacky 3-D tour through the Muppet Labs. You will visit some of your favorite Muppets, like Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Beaker. This show is continuously played every 25 minutes.
  • Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - A great ride for thrill seekers that includes some of the most impressive special effects in Walt Disney World.
  • Rock 'n Roller Coaster - High speed roller coaster that is the only attraction in Walt Disney World to travel upside-down. The lighting effects and Aerosmith music creates a total rush that is not to be missed!
  • Great Movie Ride - Classic film moments are presented through the use of Audio Animatronic figures.
  • Fantasmic! - This amazing show includes pyrotechnics, lasers, fountains and a huge cast of Disney characters and simply must be seen to be believed.
