Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween PartyEvery year around this time, we start to see particularly scary television commercials from Universal Studios Orlando. They are targeting teenagers and young adults to attract them to Central Florida theme parks for their big Halloween events. These events are really big draws every year and the older kids love to go and be scared half out of their wits. What about the younger children? If their older sibling is getting ready for a big Halloween event, they will likely want to go too, providing they haven’t seen the scary commercials. Of course the older brother or sister doesn’t want to deal with a frightened little kid all night. Enter Halloween Disney-style.

Universal was the first to have the really big scary Halloween event, with Sea World Orlando following their lead. Instead of vying for the teen crowd, Disney created Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party which caters to younger children. This event is held at the Magic Kingdom each year and provides a non-frightening Halloween type of party atmosphere for families. Children get to dress in costumes and trick-or-treat around the park while riding their favorite rides and meeting their favorite characters.

The fun begins at 7:00 pm and lasts until midnight. Ticket prices are less than a full day’s admission at $46 plus tax for a child and $53 plus tax for an adult if purchased in advance. Prices go up by about $6 if you purchase tickets the day you plan attend. Ticket prices are higher on Halloween night, too. Visiting the park on a regular admission ticket will not carry you into the Halloween event. You will be required to purchase a separate ticket for this event.

Mickey Mouse Halloween Party

This event runs only on select nights through the Fall:

• September 4, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, 29
• October 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31
• November 1

Make sure you stay for the parade! They call it Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade. The Headless Horseman rides along to begin the parade with Mickey and all the favorite Disney characters following behind, including those mischievous fellas from the Haunted Mansion. There will be a special fireworks display, too.

Many families prefer this event to traditional trick-or-treating because it’s more fun for the whole family. Plus how many times do you get to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse dressed in Halloween costumes? It’s a truly special night that no child will forget. Plus, since it draws families, most of the children will be younger, which means fewer scary costumes. Children can just have fun.

You do not have to be a young child to enjoy Disney’s Not So Scary Halloween. Many Disney World guests who are coming for the Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT often times take a night away from those festivities to enjoy a night at the Magic Kingdom.
