Long ago, a Typhoon wreaked havoc upon Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Fishing gear, ships, and surfboards were flung about. In the middle of it all stands the "Miss Tilly", a shrimp boat that has become lodged at the very peak of Mount Mayday.
That's Disney's version of the story, and surprisingly, they do a great job of convincing you that this is really what happened here. The theming of this park is incredible.
Humunga Kowabunga
These three high-speed water slides will shoot riders downward five stories at speeds of over 30mph! You must be 48" or taller to ride.
Storm Slides
For those who would never think of riding Humunga Kowabunga, Storm Slides is a milder attraction that doesn't let up on the fun. Riders are shot from a peak of three stories.
Gang Plank Falls
This is the perfect attraction for the entire family to enjoy! A family raft ride, Gang Plank Falls features large 4-person inner tubes.
Crush 'n' Gusher
Typhoon Lagoon's newest attraction is also one of its best. This attraction is more or less a roller coaster on water. High-powered water jets not only push you down the slides....sometimes you'll find yourself going up a slide or two! You must be 48" or taller to experience this ride.
Castaway Creek
This continuously-flowing "lazy river" spans an area of over 2,100 feet! Here, you can circle the entire park while passing cascading waterfalls, mist, and lush rainforests. You can choose to float on your own or by utilizing one of the many inner tubes that are provided.
Ketchakiddee Creek
This is the place for kids at Typhoon Lagoon. The play area includes a sandy beach, a variety of fountains & sprayers, and small slides. Remember, kids must be 48" or smaller to play here.
Shark Reef
My personal favorite, Shark Reef is an experience like no other in Walt Disney World. Here you will snorkel through a bone-chilling saltwater reef populated by leopard sharks, stingrays, and various other sea life. Life jackets, snorkels and masks are provided free of charge. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool
A crowd favorite, this "wave pool" is unlike any other you've ever seen. While it usually maintains normal, consistent waves, part of its cycle also includes a sudden burst of a 6-foot tall wave every minute! Be careful not to spend your entire day here, it is very easy to lose track of time at the surf pool.
Typhoon Tilly's
Here you will find snacks, lunch and dinner; located right next to Shark Reef.
Leaning Palms
This is the park's main counter-service restaurant. There is plenty of shaded seating and it is conveniently located near the entrance of the park. The burgers are great!
Happy Landings Ice Cream
A popular destination on hot Florida days, this spot offers ice cream and various refreshments.
Let's go Slurpin'
For adults only, this bar is located right on the sandy beach near the surf pool.
Singapore Sal's
The park's main retail store specializes in various souvenirs, footwear, swimwear, t-shirts, sunglasses, and more!
North Pearl
Located in "Hammer Head Fred's Dive Shop", this jewelry store specializes in pearls.
High 'n Dry Towels
This is where you will want to go to rent a locker for the day. They also rent towels and complimentary life jackets.
As you can see, there's something in Typhoon Lagoon for everyone. Unlike Blizzard Beach, there are more things here that are accessible to the younger audience. But with attractions like Shark Reef, Disney has also catered to the adventurous, older crowd.
All things considered, Typhoon Lagoon is a water park you will surely not want to miss while in Orlando.
